Walgreens, after all, is the largest drug retailer chain in the United States with a wide range of products and services available in its more than 8,21o stores across all 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Its headquarters are in Deerfield, Illinois.

Charles R. Walgreen, Sr. founded Walgreens in 1901 with a single drugstore located in the corner of Cottage Grove and Bowen Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Walgreens soon rapidly expanded into the surrounding areas through setting up of new locations and acquisitions. Today, Walgreens is a subsidiary of Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., a holding company formed by the merger of Walgreens and Boots Alliance.

Customers can choose from several different options to enjoy substantial savings on their purchases.

Balance Rewards

This is a free membership program available for both Walgreens and Duane Reade customers. Members can use their points through a mobile card with an app or a physical card, which can be used at checkout; enrollment can be made at the checkout counter, at the photo kiosks, and by downloading the app or joining online.

Certain purchases result in earning rewards points, such as Everyday Points equal 10 points per $1 on virtually all items; 30-day prescription earns 100 points, 90-day prescription for 300 points, and 100 points for immunization; and 20 points for various healthy activities including walking, running, and cycling.

Redeeming the points is easy, too, through in-store and online checkouts. A 5,000 points cumulative balance, for example, means a $5 reward while 40,000 points equal $50 reward.
